Babyland – A Georgia Roadside Attraction with a Birth of a Cabbage Patch Baby

On a recent trip to Helen, Georgia we visited the “Home of the Cabbage Patch Kids” aka Babyland General Hospital located in Cleveland. We had not even heard about this roadside attraction that has been voted by the Travel Channel as one of the top ten toylands in the WORLD.

There is not a lot of advertisement for it in Helen and I had not read anything about it when researching the area. I was surprised when a family member said it was just down the road and it was a must see. So, I looked it up on my GPS and it was just over 5 miles from my hotel in Helen.

I was surprised to find out it is FREE to visit Babyland.

We were not quite sure what Babyland General Hospital was all about. I did know it was the place where Cabbage Patch kids were born. In fact, it is the only place in the world that you can witness the birth of a Cabbage Patch Kid. When you pull up to the Babyland General Hospital, you will see a Southern style mansion.

Along the entrance and building were statues of Cabbage Patch Kids.

As soon as we walked in the door, we noticed famous people’s photos on the wall with signatures. After browsing through the photos, we entered into a huge room with a front desk. It reminded me of a hospital lobby. We were greeted and asked to sign in the visitor’s book.

The first room had many of the older Cabbage Patch Kids ranging from $15k-$30k. It was interesting seeing some of the older babies (be sure not to call them dolls!).

Then, you make your way into a nursery. This facility goes ALL out to think of every detail of what a real nursery is like. There were even people rocking the babies and employees dressed as medical providers.

My favorite thing about the Babyland General Hospital is watching a “live birth” of one of the babies. It’s a must see when visiting. Visitors surround the Magic Crystal Tree where Mother Cabbage can be found. The Cabbage Patch is pollinated by the Bunnybees. Licensed Patch Doctors and Nurses tend to the deliveries.

After the baby is born, there is a chance to hold the newborn baby. Be sure to watch the video below to see more details.

Adoption of a Cabbage Patch kid, including picking the name and birthday, is done here. Clothing and all accessories are available for purchase.

What makes these Cabbage Patch Kids different from those in stores? Each of these babies are unique and no two look alike. In fact, we were told that only 2 women make all the faces for the soft babies and the dolls were individually handmade right there in town. The Cabbage Patch Kids here are more likely to be worth money in the future due to this.
