There are so many places to stay in Savannah, Georgia that one could be overwhelmed with finding the best place to stay. Many of the old homes have been converted into a bed and breakfast. There are several hotels, including the most haunted hotel in the country! So, where is the best place to stay? I think the Kehoe House is the best place to stay in Savannah for several reasons. Here’s why!
The hotel is beautiful inside and out. The white borders on the house are made of iron and contrast with the beautiful brick. Inside, you will find exquisite décor that gives it a romantic feeling. While we were there, a violist and harpist entertained us. There is nightly wine and hor dourves and a dessert to enjoy, as well. The breakfast is delicious and plentiful. This is what we had while there.
We were greeted by the staff as soon as we walked in the door. They assisted us to our room with our luggage and showed us around our room. The staff are available to arrange dinner plans or any tours that you would like to partake in. My favorite part about the staff is how willing they were to simply have a conversation with us. Whether it be things to do in the area or simple conversation, they took the time to make us feel welcome.
The Kehoe House is located proximal to the main strip with all the shopping areas. Plus, Leopold’s ice cream is just 2 blocks away. That’s where you can find one of the top 10 best ice creams in the WORLD! We were within 1 mile walking distance to just about anywhere we wanted to go. The city of Savannah is set up well for people who like to walk as there are many squares with statues to enjoy on your stroll.
Did you know that Savannah is known as the city built on its dead?! Like many hotels in the area, they claim to be haunted.
The story of the Kehoe House isn’t as interesting as some of the other area hotels, such as the most haunted in America, the Marshall House. However, it is cool to say you have stayed in a haunted house. The story I was told is that Mr. Kehoe and his wife lived here with their 10 children. Two of the children died and that is who is supposedly haunting the house. Despite being an adults only bed and breakfast, children are rumored to have been heard inside the home.
Also, the home was once a funeral home. So, how cool is it to say you have stayed in a haunted house and a funeral home?! Kill two birds with one stone! (However, do not let this deter you. I felt like the house was more romantic than scary!)
