Save money during the holidays so you can travel more!

The holidays (birthdays, Christmas, Easter, etc) throughout the year are supposed to be a fun time spent with your family. More often than not, it becomes an expensive, stressful ordeal. You are unsure what gift your friend or loved one desires. You spend too much money. Try these money saving tips this next holiday and remember the real reasons you are celebrating! And remember, saving money during the holidays means more money to travel and create forever memories!

  1. Have a big family? Each person draw a name and buy one good gift (within a price range) the person actually wants, instead of multiple small gifts.
  2. Get crafty and make a gift. Handmade gifts seem to be the most memorable. Crafts can be done with your children to provide a fun activity that can be given to a loved one.
  3. Give the gift of labor. Time is money these days! Offer to babysit, clean the car or house, or make a coupon book of similar services you will do. Think about what the person needs and it will be a gift from the heart! (Husbands, this will win you brownie dunks!)
  4. Instead of a big birthday party, which can get quite expensive, go on a weekend trip that the birthday girl/boy helps plan. Or, surprise them with a trip. I promise you, they will remember the memories experienced while traveling, more than WHAT they received for their 7th birthday!
  5. Assemble your own ornaments and decorations. Make that a family event!
  6. Shop early for any gifts you may buy. Try to get them on sale or use coupons. Shop with Ebates or TopCashBack for coupon codes and money back! Free money just for signing up and making a purchase you would make anyways!
  7. Buy supplies and gifts after the holidays to be used for the next year.
  8. Save gift bags and clothing boxes to be reused again.
  9. Have too many people to visit on Christmas day and ruin the day rushing around? Celebrate with some family after Christmas. It can be fun getting gifts on sale, gives you more time to spend with your loved ones, and you will be less stressed.
  10. Switch to LED lights at Christmas time to save money on your electricity bill. Click here to check prices on LED lights from Amazon.

Try spending less during birthdays and holidays. Instead of spending money, spend TIME. By saving money during these celebrations, you give yourself the opportunity to go on that vacation and create memories of a lifetime that can never be taken away!
