Tennessee Renaissance Festival Tips

One of the best events Tennessee has to offer is the Tennessee Renaissance Festival held annually in May in the town of Arrington. This festival is fun for all ages and provides a glimpse into what times may have been like during the Renaissance age. If you are looking for something to do on a beautiful spring day with history and culture, people dressed up in costumes, crafts for purchase, games, exciting shows, and delicious food, then this is the festival for you. To make your day better, I’ve made a list of Tennessee Renaissance Festival tips just for you!

Here are my Tennessee Renaissance Festival tips:

  • Check their website for updates and information on the festival. I looked up times for certain events and took a look at the map before arrival to better understand how things were set up.
  • Get tickets online before you arrive to avoid the long line. I believe there is a time period to purchase tickets in advance for a discount.
  • Bring cash. There are so many different costumes, crafts, and foods that are only available for purchase with cash.
  • There is no outside food or drinks allowed.
  • Arrive early.
  • Dress appropriately. You will be doing a lot of walking, so wear appropriate shoes. You may get hot, so think about that, especially if wearing a costume. As this is a family event with children’s curious eyes absorbing it all in, dress modestly.
  • Strollers are allowed except to tour the Gwynn Castle. There is an area set aside to place strollers for those who desire to explore the castle.
  • Drink plenty of water. The festival is held during a season where the hotter days are usually just starting. It is easy to forget to get hot and dehydrated, especially when you aren’t prepared for it.
  • There are port-a-potties available in designated areas around the festival.
  • Make time for these ‘don’t miss’ events: Royal Joust, Birds of Prey, Queen’s Knighting, and tour of the Gwynn Castle.
  • Have fun!
