Which Vacation Is Right For YOU?!
Vacation time is something that many people feel they don’t have enough of. With so many different types of vacation and places to go, it can be overwhelming to figure out which vacation is right for you. Here is some information to help you choose which vacation is best for you.
All-inclusive resort
All-inclusive resort vacations have been growing in popularity over the years. This is where everything is included, so there is no worry about spending outside of your budget. While alcohol is usually included in the price, there are some resorts where there is an option to buy it or not.
Pros to an all inclusive resort vacation
A price is prepaid for all food, drinks, and activities. No worrying about spending outside of your budget. The only money needed is for extra excursions, souvenirs, and tips. You can drink all the alcohol you want without having a big bill at the end of your vacation. Most of these resorts are located in a warm locale along the beach. It can make for a relaxing vacation to sit around and do absolutely nothing and have someone else do all the cooking and cleaning.
Cons to an all inclusive resort vacation
If you don’t like the food at an all-inclusive resort, then you will have to leave the resort and pay out of pocket. If you get bored, you will have to pay for excursions outside of the resort. The majority of all-inclusive resorts are out of the country. Therefore, you will have to pay for a flight to your destination, making the cost more expensive. It is hard to get a feel for the culture of an area by just going to the all-inclusive resort. Instead, you get the luxury displayed by the resort itself.
Cruising
Cruising is growing in popularity due to its cheap all inclusive price for transportation to the ports with included housekeeping and food, but it is not for everyone. Vacations to places like Alaska are best done via a cruise ship, as many of the ports are only accessible via air or sea.
Pros to cruising
It’s a great mode of transportation. Just go to sleep and wake up in a new destination. It’s the perfect way to disconnect, if you want to, from the world. Unless you pay for internet access, you are totally separated from all worries outside of the vacation. You can easily see 3-6 different ports while on a week’s cruise.
Cons to cruising
If you get seasick easily, a cruise will not be the best vacation. Some people do not like being on a ship in the middle of the ocean with no way to get off until the next port. You will have to pay for any excursions, alcohol, or internet/phone access.
A road trip
Road trips can be the start of the best stories! Just hop in a van or RV and hit the road to either a specific destination or just go where the road leads you. I really like road trips because it is a great way to explore a region, such as a national park. If you are doing this type of vacation, I highly recommend visiting a national park and getting an annual pass as it usually comes out cheaper.
Pros to taking a road trip
You can go at your own pace, stop where you want, eat what you want, etc. This is ideal for families with children because you can do activities that interest them and eat at child friendly restaurants. Plus, admission to many places are free for kids 12 and under.
Cons to taking a road trip
You have to factor in any hotel stays, activities, food, and gas along your journey. If you don’t like riding for long distances, or get car sick, this is not the vacation for you.
A vacation package
A vacation package usually includes your flight and hotel, as well as the transfers to and from the airport. Just pick where and when you want to go, and a package is developed for you. You can do this online yourself via any of the major travel websites, or you can book via a travel agent.
Pros of a vacation package
You have a say in your flight and hotel reservations, to a degree. Prices are usually cheaper when booked as a package due to discounts from the vender.
Cons of a vacation package
You will have to pay extra for upgrades, such as first class flights or a luxury hotel. If you like picking and choosing the details of your vacation, you may not like getting a vacation package. If there is an error in the itinerary, you may have a difficult time correcting the problem. You can read about our difficulty with a travel agent here.
A group tour
There are group tours for the adventurous, history lovers, and many more. A group tour is a planned itinerary with other people with activities.
Pros of a group tour
All the planning is done for you. It is an easy way to get to know other like-minded people who are just as eager to participate in the activities are you are. You just pay the tour fee and join the crowd!
Cons of a group tour
If you like to plan or don’t like a group setting, this will not be the vacation for you. If you are more of an independent traveler, then you will not like being told how long you can stay at each attraction, where to eat, where to stay, etc.
